24th May 2010. Privately held IT and professional Services firm, Datacom, has completed the purchase of the new Perth-based data centre from in Belmont, Western Australia.
One of Australia & New Zealand’s largest services firms, Datacom’s acquisition, worth in excess of $10 million, represents significant investment for the organisation and follows a $40 million investment made last year building a new state-of-the-art data centre in Auckland.
Perth iX was built by an IT visionary in 2001 at a cost of approximately $3.6 million. During 2005, an additional upgrade of core infrastructure was also undertaken at a cost in excess of $500,000. A further $600,000 has recently been invested in 2008 to increase redundancy for your critical infrastructure. Perth iX is built on the ground floor of the Quadrant a few metres from St Georges Terrace in the heart of Perth’s CBD. No expense was spared in the quality of materials used . This has resulted in triple redundancies for power, the very best in climate controls and unsurpassed security controls.
According to the PerthiX website the data centre currently at 95% occupancy.
The Perth iX facility is currently utilised by a number of leading corporate and enterprise organisations in WA including Amcom and Nextgen Networks and, as part of Datacom’s ongoing commitment to growth in the WA market, the company will be investing a further $2.5 million in an expansion program allowing for additional cabinets to be housed in a hot/cold isle arrangement.
