Canadian Construction Software Firm Explorer Software Acquires CSSP and Kensington Computer Services

18th April 2011. Canadian construction software firm Explorer Software Group has announced it has acquired CSSP, the largest provider of software solutions for the Australian construction market, and has also acquired a CSSP support and services firm, Kensington Computer Services. Both firms originated in Adelaide. Terms of the deals have not disclosed.

CSSP has been designing and selling its own range of integrated and creative information management and control systems for all aspects of the construction industry for more than two decades now. It is dedicated to producing cost-effective and highly-productive computer systems, utilizing the best of current technology tools.

CSSP supports hundreds of organizations’ business critical construction software systems. This is Explorer’s eleventh acquisition since 2004. The company has developed a proven strategy for integrating acquired companies into its existing infrastructure. This strategy includes retaining existing CSSP staff to support clients, which helps ensure that the acquisition is as seamless as possible.

Separately, Kensington Computer Services is a leading supplier of hardware, software and computer services to the construction industry and has over 400 customers across Australia, New Zealand and Southeast Asia. It shares many of the same customers as CSSP, specializing in databases such as Rocket U2 which is used by CSSP’s suite of construction industry software.

Kensington will mark Explorer’s twelfth acquisition since 2004 and the acquisition is seen as a benefit not only to the Kensington customer base, but also the new CSSP customer base.

Explorer Software’s President and CEO Jim McFarlane said the two businesses are highly complementary and by acquiring both companies, Explorer has enhanced its ability to offer market leading solutions for the Australian construction market.

McFarlane said the investments mark the firm’s continued expansion into Australia and the acquisitions are truly a win-win for all involved. According to McFarlane, Explorer’s team, clients, and overall marketplace will see tremendous upside and continued opportunity.

In addition, Marc Hemmett, the previous Managing Director for Kensington Computer Systems, was appointed the Managing Director of Australia for Explorer Software Group.

This newest acquisition reinforces Explorer Software’s position as a global provider of construction software solutions and signals its ongoing commitment to growth and stability for many years to come.
